Couples Counseling

Many couples hope that if they stay positive, try harder, or give things time, their difficulties will resolve on their own. Often, what actually happens is that unresolved hurt, disappointment, and misunderstanding continue to surface — sometimes in ways that feel increasingly painful or hard to interrupt.

In couples counseling, we slow things down and think together about what has been happening between you. Rather than focusing on who is right or wrong, we work to understand how certain patterns have taken shape in the relationship and why they continue to repeat — even when both partners want something different.

This work creates space to notice moments when conflict escalates, closeness breaks down, or one or both partners feel unseen or alone. Over time, this kind of understanding can open the possibility for different ways of relating — ones that feel more honest, responsive, and connected.

Some of the areas commonly explored in couples counseling include:

  • chronic misunderstandings or recurring conflicts

  • feeling more like roommates than partners or lovers

  • breaches of trust, including infidelity

  • difficulties with sex, intimacy, or desire

  • navigating separation or divorce, whether considering it or living through it

  • feeling unheard, misunderstood, or emotionally alone

  • challenges related to cohabitation

  • premarital stress or uncertainty

  • parenting or step-parenting dynamics
